CHURCH HISTORY
(Beginning)
On June 11, 1907, the first Warranty Deed from Augusta Jarger was granted to Charles Preston Reeves. Trustee for Mt. Olive Baptist Church, for a consideration of $175.00. A small wooden frame structure 24 ft. by 40 ft. was constructed. From this grew a sanctuary with a capacity for seating more than 400 people, full basement with kitchen, offices, and educational wing, and a membership that has grown from 100 to at one time approximately 1,000.
It was in the winter of 1906-07 that a prayer meeting was started in the home of Brother John W. Wilson, 3262 E. 126 St. by members from Shiloh and other churches throughout the city. From this group of evout Christians the Mt. Pleasant Bapatist Society was organized..
At this time the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood was in its infancy. Poor transportation made it difficult for some of the prioneers of this comunity to attend services regularly downtown; therefore, a few members withdrew from Shiloh and other churches and were organized as Mount Olive Baptist Church.
This Church was set by Rev. Dandridge from Mt. Haven Baptist Church. The late Rev. Boston J. Prince preached the sermon a the cornerstone laying in 1907. The first pastor was Rev. John Mitchell, who served as paster for about 7 years.
